Meet our Brewmaster

Scott Freitas grew up in the San Francisco Bay area.

As he was riding to school on his bike one day, he met the head brewer of Buffalo Bills Brewing who taught Scott how to brew when he was 17 years old. He then moved to Eugene, OR where he started working at Steelhead Brewing.

From dish pit to keg washer

He started off working in the dish pit, then quickly moved to prep cook, then to baker, and after a month became the keg washer. He took brewing classes for two years through Lane Community  College and was then offered an assistant brewer position at Bend Brewing Co. in  1994. Following that, he worked part time for Deschutes Brewery for two years.

Scott moved back to Eugene, where he learned the ways of Rogue Brewing through his friend and mentor, Glenn. Scott then temporarily moved into wine making with King Estate Winery.  Moving back to into brew culture, he started  working at Snipes Mountain Brewery.  Snipes helped pioneer the use of fresh hops  into beer.

Maui Wowie

Following Snipes, he took a short hiatus from brewing then went to Maui Brewing Co.

Tom, the previous brewmaster, ventured on to open his own brewery,  leave Scott to take over. In his time at Maui, he increased production from 1,200 barrels to 18,000 barrels per year. Over the course of five years, Scott won 150 awards

After a year of being sweet talked, he moved his family to Portage, MI and became the brewmaster of Latitude 42º.  Using his combined knowledge and experience, he brews the award-winning beers we have the pleasure to serve at L42º.
